The American College of Lifestyle Medicine identifies six key pillars essential for preventing and managing chronic diseases:

-
Nutrition: Emphasizing a whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern rich in minimally processed vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
-
Physical Activity: Engaging in regular and consistent physical activity to enhance overall health.
-
Restorative Sleep: Striving for 7-9 hours of high-quality sleep to allow the body to reset and recover.
-
Stress Management: Incorporating stress-reducing behaviors essential for whole-person health.
-
Social Connection: Strengthening and maintaining relationships that bring meaning and purpose to life.
-
Avoidance of Risky Substances: Reducing or eliminating the consumption of substances that cause harm through toxicity or addiction.
-
These pillars serve as a foundation for lifestyle medicine, aiming to prevent and treat chronic conditions through sustainable, healthy lifestyle choices.
